Sahlmann Photochemical Solutions – your contact for customised photochemical light sources since 2013

Building on my studies of chemistry in Kiel, I began doing my PhD in the local research group of Prof. Dr. Rainer Herges at the Otto Diels Institute of Organic Chemistry. My research activity was embedded in the context of the special research area 677: “function by switching”. In numerous projects, light was to be used as energy source. However, the light sources available in the market were not optimal for the desired applications. Thus I designed custom-made LED light sources for my own research as well as my colleagues’ projects. In this time my wish to establish my own business in this field developed. My aim was to be able to participate in research and development projects independently.

Thus, my graduation marked the beginning of my company: Sahlmann Photochemical Solutions. Having reached the final in the ideas competition of German federal state Schleswig-Holstein of 2012, I also obtained an EXIST business start-up grant by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (sponsorship period 5/2013 – 4/2014).

By now, continuous investment has turned the university spin-off into an innovative high tech micro enterprise.

To cover aspects of occupational safety and health, I am qualified as a laser safety officer since 2014.

My order-oriented production capacity for light sources comprises electronics development, 3D-printing as well as CNC-based and manual milling and turning of plastics and non-ferrous metals.

A grown network of suppliers enables me to timely acquire parts such as special LEDs in small quantities.

Towards my customers I regard myself not only as a person providing a service, but above all as a partner supporting research projects with my expertise.
